Walter
Scott Howerton, Jr., 84, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina was born in South
Boston, Virginia on
July 20, 1925, the
son of
Walter Scott Howerton, Sr. and Rosa Mae Thaxton . He passed away August 31,
2009.
Walt was married to the former Sharon Hope Roach of Parkersburg, West Virginia.
He
was a Signalman 1st Class during World War II and served aboard several ships in
the Atlantic and Pacific theaters and a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign
Wars.
Walt
was the owner and operator of several motels and restaurants, was a SC and NC
real estate commercial broker, a member of the First (Scots) Presbyterian Church
of Charleston, SC.
Surviving,
in addition to his wife Sharon, are: three children, Master Sergeant Walter
Scott Howerton, III USMC, Retired and wife Karen Cook Howerton, Chief
Radarman John Randall Howerton, USCG, Retired and wife Beth Dunphy Howerton,
Jacqueline Renee Howerton Stroud and husband Dr. Ashley Stroud; six
grandchildren, Rachel and James Stroud, ADAN/E-3 John Howerton, USN, Jerry,
Christine & Walter "Scott" Howerton IV and Two
step-grandchildren, Jack and Roger Hager; ten great grandchildren - Kayla &
Kile Howerton, Taylor & Triston Hager, Sarah & Riley Hager, Elliana
& Jillian Howerton-Lynch, and Anna & Walter Scott Howerton V and
brother, Lawrence T. Howerton.
He
was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Madeleine H. Jones and a son, Clifford
Scott Howerton.
Visitation
was 7-9 PM, Friday evening, September 4, 2009 at Hogg Funeral Home.
The
Funeral Service was held at 2 PM Saturday, September 5, 2009, at the First
Presbyterian Church of Gloucester, Virginia with the Interment Ceremony at
Rosewell
Memorial
Cemetery
. Full Military Honors were rendered.
